We want to do our part to protect our precious planet and that is why we have been super conscious of our impact and packaging is a big ticket item– how can we make something beautiful, deliver it safely to our darling customers whilst ensuring it is done responsibly. This has been a part of our DNA since company inception.
Let’s start with the Ballet Balm’s jar. We have learnt a lot. In the early days we explored using glass as a potential packaging option but decided against it due to safety concerns & carbon emission implications. We then changed course and made the decision to use PET (polyethylene terephthalate) which is a globally recyclable plastic. This means that when you've finished enjoying your Ballet Balm, you can confidently toss the entire jar into the recycling bin, knowing that it will be recycled. This is different to many other jars because often you can recycle the jar but not the lid or vice versa. The Ballet Balm jar, lid and seal is all made of the same PET plastic and can therefore all be recycled.
Next, we needed to make sure the packaging we use to send The Ballet Balm to you was also responsible to our planet. So, I am pleased to report that our cardboard box is made from 100% recycled cardboard and can also be recycled or composted. Our packaging tape is fully recyclable and compostable. The tape is non-toxic and water-activated adhesive, eliminating harmful chemicals from the equation. Our tape is FSC-certified and sourced responsibly from sustainable forests. Our stickers are eco-friendly because they’re made from acid-free, FSC-certified paper, so can be completely composted or recycled. Our paper stickers are printed using soy-based inks, making them perfectly home compostable. Our thank you cards are made with recycled materials and printed using vibrant eco-friendly inks with no harmful chemicals. Unlike most cards, our thank you cards use a light soy varnish to protect the card instead of a silicone/plastic coating - enabling them to be composted or recycled easily after they have fulfilled their purpose.
We are continuously thinking about better ways to do things. This includes seeking packaging options that are even better for our environment. The next stage of our journey is to explore using Post Consumer Resin (PCR) PET for our jars so stay tuned...
